Tony Warren Day: Soap Legacies
Celebrate the man who created Coronation Street and changed British TV forever. Also, celebrate the legacies of unsung heroes who work on our favourite soaps, past and present.
Activities for Tony Warren Day
Discover how Corrie came to be by watching The Road to Coronation Street (2010). This fascinating TV movie was created to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Coronation Street and was written by Daran Little, current writer on EastEnders and long time Corrie archivist and scriptwriter. It follows the life of Tony Warren as he fights to get the first episodes of Coronation Street on air! It also features Jessie Wallace of EastEnders fame as a glamorous and supportive Pat Phoenix, who played Elsie Tanner in the show
Watch some episodes of soaps no longer with us on a video site like YouTube. Check out Brookside, El Dorado, and Crossroads! Let us know what made you a fan on social media.
Share a quote or a scene that defines what soap means to you - whether it’s Peggy and Pat tearing strips off each other on EastEnders, an acerbic one-liner from Corrie’s Blanche, or a great put down by Madge in Neighbours, whatever moment lives rent-free in your head, we want to hear it!
Reflect on how soap represents real people and real lives, share a story or character that meant something to you and maybe even changed your life. Don’t forget, you can use this week to raise money for charities that have touched your heart when watching a soap. See more on our charity page here.
Celebrate the writers, actors, directors, storyliners, producers, and supporting artists who create the shows we love. Whether it’s a quick tweet or a tribute, let’s celebrate the creativity and dedication of the people behind and in front of the camera. You can watch interviews with many cast and crew on Conversation Street’s YouTube channel - or why not post another interview you love online to share it with everyone!
Don’t forget to use #TonyWarrenDay and #SoapWeek to shout it from the rooftops!
Walk for Webster: Saturday 12 July, 2025
In honour of International Soap Week, co-hosts of Conversation Street Michael and Gemma are planning a three mile walk from the old Coronation Street set to the new one in Media City. Along the way we're going to stop at a few filming locations from Coronation Street from over the years - you can find our proposed route here.
The goal of this walk is to raise vital funds for Dementia UK, supporting the portrayal of Debbie Webster’s journey with vascular dementia on Coronation Street. Additionally, Nigel Bates in EastEnders is battling early onset dementia. This cause is close to our hearts, and with your donation, we can continue raising awareness about dementia, as well as show the incredible power of soap fans to bring about real change.
How You Can Help:
Every pound raised through this event helps show your support and raise awareness - thank you! If you’d like to join us on the walk itself, we’d love to have you with us. We just ask that you either donate to our fundraising page or set up your own soap-themed fundraiser. Whether you’re walking, sponsoring, or both, we’d be thrilled to have you involved!
Event Details:
Date: 12 July 2025
Time: 11:00 AM (starting at Saint John's Gardens, Manchester)
End: Approx. 1:00 PM (at Media City Studios)
We’ll keep the fundraiser open after the event to collect as many donations as possible, so please share this with others who may want to contribute.
Together, we can make a real difference, whether you walk with us or donate from afar!
